The RTX 4000 Series of GPUs are a swift bunch, but they come with some incredibly high cost and that’s especially true for the RTX 4080.
The $800 MSRP RTX 4070 Ti is also on the costly side, but it is the best-value GPU out of the entire series.
Since the RTX 4070 Ti’s value is on the brink of being a “poor buy”, it’s extremely important to choose the right RTX 4070 Ti graphics card.
In this buyer’s guide, we’ll be looking at the best 4070 Tis and comparing their pricing, performance, and cooling.
Let’s delve right in!
MSI GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Gaming X Trio

The Pros:
- Solid overclockingrnGreat cooling
The Cons:
- Frequent price spikes
The Gaming X Trio proved to be a great cooler for the RTX 4090 and RTX 4080, so no doubt the cooler performs well on the RTX 4070 Ti too.
Pricing
The RTX 4070 Ti has an $800 MSRP while the RTX GeForce 4070 Ti Gaming X Trio has an $840 MSRP. However, on Amazon, the GPU is often priced between $865 and $880, so a bit more expensive than expected.
Design
We’ve said it multiple times, but we’ll say it again. The design of the MSI Gaming X Trio has always been a hit.
It’s a 1.6 kg GPU, 34 cm long with a black/silver shroud around the black fans, so nothing too bold in terms of its design, but the GPU will aesthetically fit in most PC builds.
Like most GPUs at this price point, it has a dual BIOS switch and a metallic backplate.
Performance And Overclocking Capabilities
Out of the box with the quicker BIOS, the RTX 4070 Ti Gaming X Trio has a 2760 MHz boost clock. When tested in various games, clock speeds average around 2830 MHz, which is near to the advertised speeds.
With overclocking you can expect a 4-7% improvement in in-game FPS since the Gaming X Trio GPU Clock can get up to 3000 MHz. Memory clocks can also get up to 1500 MHz, making the MSI RTX 4070 Ti one of the finest memory overlockers.
Cooling And Acoustics
The default (non-gaming) BIOS on the RTX 4070 Ti Gaming X Trio is the quieter option, which maintains the fans around 1244 RPM and produces only about 28 dBA. And even though it’s very quiet, GPU temperature goes to around 68 degrees Celsius.
The “Gaming BIOS” reduces the GPU temp to about 65 degrees, but the extra noise simply isn’t worth the tradeoff.
PNY GeForce RTX 4070 Ti OC XLR8
Interface: 3 x Display Port 1.4a, 1 x HDMI 2.1arnBoost Clock: 2670 MHzrnDimensions: L: 331 W: 136.9 H: 66.5 mm
The Pros:
- Cheapest AIB RTX 4070 TirnRemarkably good overclockingrnStays cool and quiet
The Cons:
- No disadvantages whatsoever
People most often go for MSI, ASUS, Gigabyte, or EVGA for NVIDIA cards, but other companies such as PNY deliver just as good GPUs or maybe even better.
PNY’s GeForce RTX 4070 Ti OC XLR8, for example, is one of the better RTX 4070 Tis.
Pricing
Out of all custom RTX 4070 Tis, PNY’s is one of the cheaper ones. Its MSRP is $830, so just $30 above NVIDIA’s MSRP. Not bad.
But, what about its effectiveness and quality?
Design
Despite the lower cost, the RTX 4070 Ti still appears striking and of high caliber. Its front side showcases three black fans enclosed by a primarily black casing, with transparent stripes creating an X for RGB.
It’s also on the lighter side, about 1.57 kilogram, so you won’t have to worry about GPU sag too much with this lightweight card.
Performance And Overclocking Capabilities
PNY’s RTX 4070 Ti XLR8 doesn’t have a notable factory overclock in its specifications. However, when tested in-game, the average clock speeds are actually much higher, even higher than MSI’s Gaming X Trio.
In TechPowerUp’s evaluation, the average gaming clock speed is around 2880MHz, almost 8% more than the advertised clock speed.
Overclocking is also noteworthy with the GPU clock going up to 3045 MHz and the memory clock up to 1490 MHZ.
Thermals And Acoustics
The PNY card keeps on giving even when it comes to cooling! The triple-fan design is more than enough to keep the RTX 4070 Ti cool and quiet.
In-game the GPU averages around 63 degrees Celsius and noise levels stay around 27.5 dBA. So, it’s both cool and quiet, which is probably why clock speeds boost so well.
ASUS GeForce RTX 4070 Ti TUF
Interface: 3 x Display Port 1.4a, 2 x HDMI 2.1arnBoost Clock: 2760 MHzrnDimensions: L: 305 W: 138 H: 65 mm
The Pros:
- Good price point
The Cons:
- High temperatures with Quiet BIOS
ASUS’s STRIX line usually comes with a considerable price premium, severely impacting the value of the card, but the TUF lineup is the perfect balance between quality and price.
Let’s see what the ASUS GeForce RTX 4070 Ti TUF has to offer!
Pricing
The RTX 4070 Ti TUF has an $850 price tag, so a $50 price premium over the Founders Edition. Not too expensive, but how does it compare against the more budget-friendly PNY or Founders Edition options?
Design
Nothing too crazy going on with the design of the ASUS card. A standard triple-fan setup, a grayish/black metal backplate, and a shroud around the GPU of the same colors. But, even with a tame design, it still looks to be made of high-quality materials.
It weighs only about 1373g and is 305 mm long, so lighter and shorter than the alternatives.
Performance And Overclocking Capabilities
Specifications advertise boost clocks of 2760 MHz, while in-game clock speeds average around 2850 MHz, so nothing is out of the ordinary here.
The RTX 4070 Ti TUF does overclock well though. We’ve seen a GPU clock OC closer to 3090 MHz with memory clocks of about 1470 MHz. Although PNY’s higher memory clock overclock provides a higher boost in performance.
Thermals And Acoustics
The ASUS RTX 4070 Ti TUF comes with two BIOS options. The default is a bit louder since the fans spin up to 1500 RPM, creating noise levels around 32 dBA with temperatures staying around 66 degrees Celsius.
With the Quiet Bios enabled, noise levels drop down to 29 dBA, and temperature rises up very high, up to 80 degrees Celsius.
MSI GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Suprim X
Interface: 3 x Display Port 1.4a, 1 x HDMI 2.1arnBoost Clock: 2790 MHzrnDimensions: L: 338 W: 142 H: 73 mm
The Pros:
- Amazing designrnGreat quality
The Cons:
- Ridiculously expensive at times
MSI’s RTX 4070 Ti Gaming X Trio presented an excellent all-around performance for a fair price, but what about the pricier Suprim X?
Pricing
MSI’s RTX 4070 Ti Suprim X is a premium graphics card, therefore it carries a higher cost. MSI has not disclosed the official price, but we speculate it to be around $900.
However, the lowest pricing we’ve seen in stores for this GPU is $925 and prices have gone up to $1200+. For $1200, the RTX 4070 Ti entirely loses its value proposition since the RTX 4080’s MSRP is $1200.
Design
At least there is minor justification for such a high price and that’s the materials used, feel, and general appearance of this graphics card.
It’s hefty, weighing over 2 kg, probably because of the substantial heatsink and metal shroud. The silver/brushed aluminum shroud surrounds the three fans and, on the front, gives it that premium appearance.
The backplate has a few different textures/styles and a much more interesting design. Overall, the card looks amazing.
But, is the RTX 4070 Ti Suprim X just looks or does it provide more than that?
Performance And Overclocking Capabilities
Considering the cost, the factory clock speeds aren’t really remarkable. When tested in-game, the GPU clock averages around 2850 MHz, which isn’t any different than the other GPUs we’ve listed.
If overclocking, the GPU clock is capable to get up to 3090 MHz, but memory clocks might not exceed 1440 MHz.
Thermals And Acoustics
So far, the Suprim X hasn’t justified its high price even with its high-end design and material quality. So, the only redeeming factor left is the thermal performance.
With the default BIOS, MSI’s cooler makes this one of the most silent RTX 4070 Ti! Fan speeds go up to around 1150 RPM, which is why noise levels stay around just 26 dBA.
And even though it’s super quiet, temperatures are still in the acceptable range, around 71 degrees Celsius. Not bad at all!
With the Gaming BIOS though, fan speeds ramp up to 1509 RPM and noise levels jump up to 32 dBA, which is noisier than all the other GPUs. So, we suggest sticking with the default BIOS.
Which RTX 4070 Ti Should You Get?
Out of the four very different cooler designs for the RTX 4070 Ti, which one should you go for?
Well, to get the most out of your money, the PNY GeForce RTX 4070 Ti OC XLR8 is no doubt the Best Overall, while also offering the best value!
If you’re looking for the Premium Pick, consider the MSI RTX 4070 Ti Suprim X. Although if it nears the $1200 price point, it might be more valuable to find an RTX 4080 instead.
Alternatively, the MSI RTX 4070 Ti Gaming X Trio and ASUS RTX 4070 Ti TUF are also excellent options.
